局上竹陰清
映竹無人見
時聞下子聲

The mountain priest
Sits beside a chess board,
As pure shadows from bamboos
Fall across it.
Nothing alive that moves can be seen
Save for the shadows of the bamboos—
Yet from time to time
Comes a sound of chessmen moving.
